Full Itinerary - 5-Day Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking Uganda Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park & Evening Crater Lakes Visit

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from Entebbe or Kampala. Soon after departure, drive westwards through Uganda’s lush countryside. More so, see rolling hills, tea plantations, and traditional homesteads create a constantly changing landscape. And along the way, you enjoy scenic photo stops and a relaxed lunch en route.

By afternoon, you arrive in Kibale National Park, famous for its rich primate diversity. Again, after checking into your lodge, you head out for an evening visit to the Ndali–Kasenda Crater Lakes region. Here, sparkling lakes lie within ancient volcanic craters, framed by forested slopes and distant mountains. Mostly a guided walk allows you to admire panoramic views while learning about the area’s geology and local livelihoods.

Later, you return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation as forest sounds fill the night.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary Nature Walk

Kibale National Park

After an early breakfast, you transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. Shortly after, you enter the forest with experienced rangers. Then the trek takes you through dense vegetation, towering fig trees, and winding trails. Suddenly, calls echo through the forest canopy. Moments later, you encounter a family of chimpanzees feeding, grooming, and playing.

You spend an unforgettable hour observing these intelligent primates. And their close genetic relationship to humans makes the experience deeply moving. Afterwards, you return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest.

Furthermore, In the afternoon, you visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run conservation area. And a guided nature walk introduces you to colorful birds, butterflies, monkeys, and medicinal plants. At the same time, you learn how tourism supports local development.

As evening approaches, you return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Once inside the forest, you trek through thick vegetation and steep terrain. The walk may be challenging. However, the reward is extraordinary. Suddenly, get to stand face to face with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. You watch them feed, rest, and interact. The one-hour encounter feels timeless.

After returning from the trek, later enjoy lunch and then drive to Lake Bunyonyi. The road winds through terraced hills and deep valleys. By late afternoon, you arrive at the lake’s peaceful shores.
